8th Stop in Ireland: Donegal

Updated: Oct 18, 2019

This is a blog post that I am going to need your help with. I am asking for as much feedback from our followers as possible. Ash and I only stayed in Ballybofey, a small town in Donegal, for one night. We really didn't have the chance, or time, to see much of Donegal when we visited. I am able to offer some information on Ballybofey, but would welcome any recommendations people have about other places that they have visited in this county.

After our visit in Westport, Ash and I drove to Ballybofey, a small town on the River Finn. It was later in the day, so we stopped at one of the first restaurants we saw which was located in Jackson's Hotel. The restaurant was packed, but we found two seats at the bar. The food was fine, but it wasn't really the atmosphere we were looking for. We didn't stay long before heading out to our Airbnb about 10 minutes up the road.

If we were to do it again, I think we would have stayed somewhere else. Ballybofey was not our ideal stop, and we can't really recommend things to do or see here based on our experience. Although this night lacked a little, we were lucky enough to get a wonderful view of a rainbow in the Irish sky.

So I ask you, PLEASE send recommendations! What places in Donegal would be good for a one night stay? What must-see things are in this area? I am not as familiar with this region of Ireland as I am of the west, east, south, and Northern Ireland. We would love to learn from you, so please send us your thoughts!

I do ask that this stays a positive and safe space for readers, so please, no hurtful language or remarks about other's experiences. Thank you.
